Courtroom Skills

A half day workshop to help experts understand what to expect, and feel confident and prepared, when giving evidence in court.

Course

About this course

Giving evidence in court is often one of the most stressful elements for an expert witness. This half day workshop is designed to help experts understand what to expect when giving evidence in court or at a hearing. The training will explain the court process, the role of the expert witness, how evidence is given, and the approach to questioning and cross-examination. It will help expert witnesses feel more confident and prepared while ensuring they understand the importance of giving their own evidence clearly, honestly and independently.

Please note, this session does not involve witness coaching and will not cover or discuss live evidence or the merits of any particular case.

The course runs from 9.30am – 1pm online.

Dates for this course are to be confirmed. Please contact us to register your interest or to discuss your requirements.

Testimonials

What attendees say

I had given evidence a dozen times and still walked out of cross-examination rattled. This training changed how I prepare entirely.

Dr Helena Voss Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

The Enhancing Expertise conference with McDermott KC Law was a fantastic conference and full of valuable insights for both seasoned experts and ones new to the world of acting as an expert witness. Gerard and Michelle, as were all the speakers, were engaging and genuinely interested in practically supporting all the experts in attendance to improve their ability to deliver their expert opinions to the court, to the standards expected. An added bonus was the high-quality materials that were provided to all attendees, including a really good practical guide to being an expert witness that we could take away and reflect on. More days like these please!

Lauren McCluskey Managing Director and Specialist Case Manager, COTA Case Management

This gave me a much clearer sense of what the court actually expects from expert evidence, not just the theory, but how to present it under real scrutiny. I would recommend it to any expert, however experienced.

Dr Aisha Rahman Consultant Psychiatrist

Practical, well-structured and directly relevant to the reports I write every week. The mock cross-examination session alone was worth attending for.
